terresa teutenbergDiscovery Learning Academy was founded by Terresa J. Teutenberg in January of 2010. Before Discovery Learning Academy opened it’s doors, Terresa had been seeking a quality childcare facility for her children that specialized in all age groups and developmental stages. At this time three of her five children attended different centers in the area. After no success in finding a center that fit her needs, she began working to open Discovery Learning Academy. When Discovery Learning Academy finally opened, it had 35 children enrolled, including one infant and six VPK students. Terresa was very pleased with the number of children enrolled for the first day. As word spread, the number of children enrolled increased very quickly and currently cares for up to 130 children.

Terresa J. Teutenberg came from a mainly business background. She took it upon herself to learn the childcare side of the business and surrounded herself with qualified individuals who knew the industry well. She was thrilled on the first day when all of her children were in the same building! Terresa was proud of Discovery Learning Academy and all that it stood for. She worked hard to provide a happy and safe place for the staff, students, and parents. Her goals consisted of: providing children with quality, loving care; parents with top-notch customer service and state of the art security; and teachers/staff with a fun, upbeat, and secured environment.

In July of 2011, Discovery faced tragedy. The Teutenburg family- Terresa, her husband Fred and their five children, Will, Brendon, Ellie, Peyton and Emma, were tragically killed in a plane crash returning home from a family reunion in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Although devastated, Discovery Learning Academy continued to move forward with Terresa’s dream. Her legacy continues to be carried on. In May of 2014, ownership of Discovery Learning Academy was transferred to Terresa’s immediate family. Her oldest daughter, Ashlei, her mother, Sharon A. Elliott, her brother, John C. Barranco, Jr., and her father, John C. Barranco, all became owners of Terresa’s Discovery Learning Academy. Her father has also taken on the role of the manager for the company and is working hard to ensure the future success of Discovery Learning Academy.
